MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Westfield Coalition for the Arts is to act as an advocate for the arts including music, drama, visual arts and dance in the Westfield Public Schools, by speaking out on behalf of the arts, maintaining public awareness and utilizing sources of community, financial and philosophical support.
WHO WE ARE
The Westfield Coalition for the Arts was formed by concerned parent volunteers in 1986 as a way to support the arts programs in our schools. We are fortunate that today, in 2018, our arts programs are thriving! However, this does not mean that our district's Visual and Performing Arts department doesn't need help now and then.
It is fair to say that when budget woes plague public school districts across this nation, the arts budgets are often the first ones to be cut. This is why the coalition was formed. We want to make sure our arts are supported no matter what the budget climate. We also want our children to have the best possible arts education they can with added programs, extra-curricular activities, exceptional equipment, supplies, materials and other resources.
This non-profit organization relies solely on donations. We prefer not to clutter an already busy school schedule with added fundraisers and benefits. We simply ask for your support throughout the school year by asking for donations.
HOW DO WE DISBURSE FUNDS?
At the beginning of each school year, we send out a donation request letter to every Westfield public school family. In this letter we give you an insight in to how our collected funds were spent the prior year. You will see that the WCA has helped art, music, vocal, and theatre programs across the district. We try to make sure that every school from Lincoln to WHS gets a fair share of funds. In determining what program should receive funds, we rely on our dedicated and talented arts faculty. They are encouraged to submit grants requesting funds for basic equipment and supplies, special programs, continuing education, unique and intriguing projects, etc. The WCA reviews the grants carefully under the guidance of the Supervisor of the Visual and Performing Arts department and makes a determination on awards by considering factors such as our financial account status, how the requested gift will benefit students and how many students will be affected, the faculty member's objectives, the lasting power of the proposal, and how much, if any, other organizations have contributed to this proposal.
